Vehicle may Roll Despite being in ‘Park’

Despite selecting ‘Park’, if the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.

 

Summary

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2017 Audi Q5 vehicles.

Due to a manufacturing defect within the gearbox, despite selecting the Park position, the vehicle may still unexpectedly roll.

 

Remedy

Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the gearbox in the affected vehicles, free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin in May 2017.

Audi has notified NHTSA about the upcoming safety recall described in this letter.

CODE 37K6
AFFECTED VEHICLES Certain 2017 MY Audi Q5

Audi has identified five (5) vehicles in the United States affected by this recall.

All affected vehicles are held and are in the process of being repaired.

RECALL DESCRIPTION Due to a manufacturing defect within the gearbox, when the shift selector is moved to the Park position the gearbox may not engage the parking pawl. If this happens and the parking brake is not set, the vehicle could roll unexpectedly and cause injury to people and damage to property.
PRECAUTIONS Until this recall repair has been performed, customers with affected vehicles are advised to always set the parking brake after placing the vehicle in Park.
CORRECTIVE ACTION Dealers will replace the gearbox in affected vehicles at no cost to customers.

Audi has made outbound calls to affected customers to alert them to this recall.

 

IMPORTANT REMINDER ON VEHICLES AFFECTED BY SAFETY & COMPLIANCE RECALLS

New Vehicles in Dealer Inventory: It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle or any new or used item of motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by this notification under a sale or lease until the defect or noncompliance is remedied. By law, dealers must correct, prior to delivery for sale or lease, any vehicle that fails to comply with an applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or that contains a defect relating to motor vehicle safety. 

Pre-Owned Vehicles in Dealer Inventory: Dealers should not deliver any pre-owned vehicles in their inventory which are involved in a safety or compliance recall until the defect has been remedied.
