Issue:
Pins inside the passenger seat occupant detection system control module were not soldered to the circuit board correctly. This can lead to an interruption in communication between the passenger seat occupant detection system control module and the airbag control module. In combination with vibrations or similar events, the pins may no longer have contact to the circuit board due to the missing solder connection. If the airbag control unit detects the fault, it switches into fail-safe mode and deactivates the passenger airbag. In a crash, there would be an increased risk of injury to the occupant seated in the front passenger seat if the passenger frontal airbag is switched off or not working.
Precautions
If the recall condition occurs, the yellow airbag warning light will illuminate, and the airbag control module switches to the fail-safe mode, deactivating the passenger frontal airbag. If this happens, owners are advised to contact an authorized Audi dealer without delay to have the vehicle diagnosed.

Description of the Safety Risk : In a crash, there would be an increased risk of injury to the occupant seated in the front passenger seat if the passenger frontal airbag is switched off or not working.
Description of the Cause : At the responsible delivery company, control units from several manufacturers are soldered on a production line. When the soldering program was switched to another manufacturer, there were still Audi control units on the production line. The control unit of the other manufacturer does not have 3 specific pins, which is why these were not soldered on the Audi control units. Identification of Any Warning
that can Occur : If the recall condition occurs, the yellow airbag warning light will illuminate, and the airbag control module switches to the fail-safe mode, deactivating the passenger frontal airbag. Chronology :
November 2023 – March 2024: On November 24, 2023 a deviation in the soldering process at the supplier was identified during a field analysis. The issue was brought to the attention of Audi on December 7, 2023 and the investigation regarding the potential implications and the potentially affected vehicles was started immediately together with the supplier. The topic was reported to the Audi Product Safety Committee and an in-depth analysis of the topic was facilitated.
Concurrently, efforts were underway at the supplier’s end to rectify the issue. On February 27, 2024, the supplier enhanced their automated optical inspection process in the production line, marking a significant step towards issue resolution.
March 27, 2024: After thorough deliberation and analysis, the Audi Product Safety committee made the determination of a safety defect due to the potential impact on the passenger airbag´s deployment in case of a crash.
As of April 03, 2024 Audi is aware of two related warranty claims, but Audi is not aware of any injuries, crashes or fires due to this issue. Date of determination: March 27, 2024

Audi will not offer a reimbursement plan under this recall because the vehicles affected would be covered under the new vehicle limited warranty.
The control module is being replaced with a new one of the same model, which has been correctly produced.
The supplier has enhanced the automated optical inspection process on the production line to identify unsoldered pins. This was implemented on February 27, 2024. Recall Schedule :
