Auxiliary Heater Electrical Connector may Melt
The melted wires can increase the risk of a fire.
Summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen
) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Audi
A5 Coupe, A5 Cabriolet, A4 Sedan, A4 Allroad and Q5 vehicles. Contact corrosion within the electrical connector for the auxiliary heater may cause the heater wires to overheat or melt.
Remedy
Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the auxiliary heater and, as necessary, update the software, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Audi
customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen
’s numbers for this recall are 80C5 and 80C6.

Audi has notified NHTSA and Transport Canada about the upcoming safety recalls described in this letter.
Affected vehicles will be included in only one of the following recall codes, depending on the vehicle software status:

RECALL DESCRIPTION | The electrical connector of the auxiliary heater is susceptible to contact corrosion, which may cause the auxiliary heater to fail and/or cause the wires to overheat and melt. Melting wires may lead to an open circuit, but can also lead to overheating which can result in a fire. |
CORRECTIVE ACTION | Repair information will be provided to dealers when parts and repair instructions become available to support each recall.

IMPORTANT REMINDER ON VEHICLES AFFECTED BY SAFETY & COMPLIANCE RECALLS
New Vehicles in Dealer Inventory: It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle or any new or used item of motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by this notification under a sale or lease until the defect or noncompliance is remedied. By law, dealers must correct, prior to delivery for sale or lease, any vehicle that fails to comply with an applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or that contains a defect relating to motor vehicle safety.
Pre-Owned Vehicles in Dealer Inventory: Dealers should not deliver any pre-owned vehicles in their inventory which are involved in a safety or compliance recall until the defect has been remedied.
