Improperly Secured Fuel Line may cause Fuel Leak

A fuel leak in the engine compartment can increase the risk of a fire.

 

Summary

VolkswageneBay logo Group of America, Inc. (VolkswageneBay logo) is recalling certain 2018 AudieBay logo TT Roadster, TT Coupe, A3 Sedan and A3 Cabriolet vehicles. The fuel hose quick connector may detach from the fuel supply line in the engine bay, resulting in a fuel leak.

 

Remedy

VolkswageneBay logo will notify owners, and dealers will secure the fuel line connection, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2018. Owners may contact AudieBay logo customer service at 1-800-253-2834. VolkswageneBay logo’s number for this recall is 20BK.

Check Campaigns/Actions screen in Elsa on the day of repair to verify that a VIN qualifies for repair under this action.  Elsa is the only valid campaign inquiry & verification source. 

  • Campaign status must show “open.”
  • If Elsa shows other open action(s), inform your customer so that the work can also be completed at the same time the vehicle is in the workshop for this campaign.
Problem DescriptionThe underhood fuel supply hose quick connector may not be securely attached to the fuel supply line. There is a risk that the fuel line may open at the quick connector, which may cause fuel to leak into the engine compartment. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
Corrective ActionInspect the affected fuel line connection. The guiding sleeve will be removed and a tension test will be performed to assure secure locking.
PrecautionsCustomers who notice a fuel odor in the vehicle are advised to contact an authorized AudieBay logo dealer without delay and arrange to have the vehicle inspected.
Parts InformationNo parts will be needed for this repair.
Code VisibilityOn or about December 20, 2018, affected vehicles will be listed on the Inventory Vehicle Open Campaign Action report under My Dealership Reports (found on www.accessaudi.com & OMD Web). A list will not be posted for dealers who do not have any affected vehicles.

New Vehicles in Dealer Inventory: It is a violation of federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle or any new or used item of motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by this notification under a sale or lease until the defect or noncompliance is remedied. By law, dealers must correct, prior to delivery for sale or lease, any vehicle that fails to comply with an applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or that contains a defect relating to motor vehicle safety.

Pre-Owned Vehicles in Dealer Inventory: Dealers should not deliver any pre-owned vehicles in their inventory which are involved in a safety or compliance recall until the defect has been remedied. 

Dealers must ensure that every affected inventory vehicle has this campaign completed before delivery to consumers.

Claim Entry Instructions

After campaign has been completed, enter claim as soon as possible to help prevent work from being duplicated elsewhere. Attach the Elsa screen print showing action open on the day of repair to the repair order.

If customer refused campaign work:

  • U.S. dealers: Submit the request through AudieBay logo Warranty Online under the Campaigns/Update option.
  • Canada dealers: Upload the repair order [signed by customer] to Audi WIN/Operations/Campaign Closure.
