Summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen
) is recalling certain 2021 ID.4 vehicles. Caps were installed on the headlight vertical aim instead the horizontal aim, allowing for horizontal adjustment of the headlight beam. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Dealers will remove the caps from the vertical aim and install them on the horizontal aim, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2021. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen
’s number for this recall is 9406.

Resolution If the headlight adjustment cap is found damaged or missing during the 94o6 repair, the cap must
be replaced. The supply of the part number listed in ETKA may be limited.
If headlight adjustment cap, ETKA part number 8W0-941-041, is not available, cap part number
4E0-941-041 can be used as an alternative.

adjustment screw <1> and move to the
horizontal adjustment screw <2>.
TIP
Using a straight pick to guide the cap into the
horizontal adjustment screw will aid in installation
and reduce the chances of the cap being lost.
๏ท Ensure the sealing cap is fully seated into the
horizontal adjustment screw.
๏ท If a cap is missing, lost or damaged, it must be
replaced.
๏ท If the sealing cap is already installed on the
horizontal adjustment screw <2>, do not
remove the cap.

Issue: The headlights in vehicles affected by this recall did not have the required cap installed
over the horizontal aim adjuster during vehicle production. This makes the headlights
non-compliant with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, Lamps,
Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment. Incorrectly adjusted headlights may
result in reduced visibility for the driver and other motorists, which could increase the risk
of a crash.
Repair: ๏ท REPAIR AVAILABLE โ June 08, 2021 / Remove the cap from the vertical aim
adjuster on each headlight and install it on the horizontal aim adjuster.

๏ท Check both the daily Campaign Open Inventory report and OMD for affected
vehicles in inventory. Verify OPEN status in ELSA on the day of repair.
๏ท Repair every affected inventory vehicle before delivery to consumers.
Parts Department: No parts needed; the repair is to reuse the existing caps already installed on the
headlights.
