Chronology of Defect July 27, 2021: AUDI AG is informed by another affected brand that the wiring harness for the center rear seat belt buckle on certain Audi e-tron GT vehicles may be routed incorrectly. Audi AG implemented a robustness countermeasure in production to prevent the possibility of improper routing going forward. July – October 2021: AUDI AG investigated vehicles at ports to identify if there were any affected vehicles in the field. Ten percent of sampled vehicles inspected at the ports exhibited improper wire routing, though the extent of field exposure was still unknown. Testing indicated that it was potentially not possible to secure a child restraint system on the right rear seat of affected vehicles. Testing also indicated that the issue would be clearly observable by a consumer on affected vehicles. The Audi Product Safety Committee decided a service campaign for the affected vehicles to secure the wiring harness and check for possible pre-damage. November 2021 – January 2022: Further analysis commenced to finalize identification of potentially affected vehicles, including whether condition may have been fixed by quality teams prior to customer delivery. U.S. colleagues reviewing the topic as part of the campaign preparation identified that the issue may cause a noncompliance with FMVSS 225 if the lower LATCH anchor on the right rear seat is made inoperative due to the wire routing condition. The topic, including population, safety impact, and root cause, was discussed between the affected brands in U.S. and Germany. The legal teams of Audi AG and Volkswagen Group of America analyzed the potential noncompliance with FMVSS 225 and recommended escalation to the Audi Product Safety Committee. February 9, 2022: The legal assessment is presented to the Audi Product Safety Committee and a recommendation was made to escalate to multi-brand clearing for final determination regarding a potential noncompliance recall. March, 2022 72M6 Page 8 of 12 Section B – Rear Center Seat Belt Buckle Harness Inspection Remove rear bench seat:  Move the front seats all the way forward.  Pull the rear bench seat <1> one after the other with both hands using force upward, out of the mounts in direction of <arrows A, B and C>.  Equipped on some models: disconnect the left and right connector for seat heating.  Guide out the seat belt latch and remove the rear bench seat. Inspect rear center seat belt buckle wiring harness:  Inspect the rear center seat belt buckle wiring harness in the area shown <arrow>. March, 2022 72M6 Page 9 of 12  If the wiring harness <arrow> has not been damaged: o The wiring harness must be rerouted and secured.  See Section D  If the wiring harness <arrow> has been damaged: o The center seat belt buckle must be replaced.  See Section C o The wiring harness must be rerouted and secured after replacing center seat belt buckle.  See Section D Section C – Replacing Rear Center Seat Belt Buckle Loosen passenger side lower B-pillar trim:  Free up the B-pillar trim panel near the door seals.  Disengage the B-pillar trim panel <1> from the A-pillar trim panel <2> starting at the bottom in the direction of <arrow A>.  Unclip the B-pillar trim panel from the B-pillar in the direction of <arrow B> using the trim removal wedge no. 7 from the Scraper Set -VAS6845-.  Unclip the B-pillar trim panel downward from the B-pillar upper trim panel in the direction of <arrows C> and remove downward. Loosen passenger sill trim:  Free up the lower C-pillar trim panel in the door seal area.  Unclip the C-pillar trim panel <1> from the Bpillar in the direction of <arrow A> using the trim removal wedge no. 7 from the Scraper Set -VAS6845-.  Unclip the C-pillar trim panel from the side sill in the direction of <arrows B> and press to the side. March, 2022 72M6 Page 10 of 12 Replacing rear center seat belt buckle: Part Number Part Description 9J1-857-740-B Buckle  Disconnect the connector <1> for the seat belt switch, as shown in this example.  Free up the wire for the seat belt switch.  Remove the bolt <2> and remove the seat belt buckle <3>.  When installing the new seat belt buckle, position the seat belt buckle so that the antitwist mechanism <arrow> engages in the cutout.  Torque bolt <2> to 40 Nm.  Install trim panels in the reverse order of removal.  The seat belt buckle harness must be rerouted and secured. March, 2022 72M6 Page 11 of 12 Section D – Securing Rear Center Seat Belt Buckle Wiring Harness  The distance from the wiring harness to the Isofix anchorage should be 50 mm.  Route the wiring harness <arrows> as shown.  Clean the surface of the floor with isopropyl alcohol or equivalent cleaning spray.  Secure wiring harness with an 80 mm long piece of fabric tape <1>.
