Problem Description
Due to a hardware issue, the infotainment main unit in the center console may become damaged after the driver turns off the vehicle and the main unit shuts down. Upon the next start, the damaged infotainment unit would not work. In this case, all functionalities, including the rearview camera image, would not be available.
A rearview camera screen that displays no image reduces the driver’s information about what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury to people outside the vehicle.
Corrective Action
Replace the infotainment main unit.
Precautions
Upon start-up, the driver will notice that the infotainment screen in the center console is not working and not displaying an image, which should prompt the driver to pay extra attention for objects behind the vehicle when reversing.
Code Visibility
On November 08, 2022, the campaign code was applied to affected vehicles.
Owner Notification
Owner notification will take place in June 2023. Owner letter examples are included in this bulletin for your reference.

Chronology :
June-July 2021: In vehicle production it was noticed on some vehicles that infotainment main units were inoperative. Cases were verified and root cause analysis was conducted together with the supplier. After root cause was found, an improvement measure was agreed with the supplier and implemented at the supplier´s production in mid-July 2021.
October 2021: The US market reported the first cases of main unit failures in field vehicles.
December 2021: The supplier informed Audi
that due to a process error the improvement measure from July 2021 was erroneously eliminated in mid-November which was noticed on December 4, 2021. The supplier reintroduced the measure again on December 5, 2021 in production.
June 22, 2022: The US market reports an increase in warranty claims indicating a failure of the infotainment main unit and asks the Product Safety organization for an evaluation of the topic due to the effect on the functionality of the rearview camera display.
June – September 2022: The field data were analyzed and the potential safety impact as well as compliance with regulations in the affected markets were evaluated and discussed between the brands. The assessment considered the failure mode and the requirements of FMVSS 111 – Rear Visibility, which requires the display of a “field of view” of certain objects behind the vehicle upon the initiation of a backing event.
October 19, 2022: The Audi
Product Safety Committee makes the determination of a non-compliance for the US and Canada and decides a non-compliance recall.
Between September 2021 and October 2022 Audi
has received 746 warranty claims in the U.S. market where the infotainment main unit failed and had to be replaced. Audi
has not received any reports of a crash or injury due to this topic.

Problem Description Due to a hardware issue, the infotainment main unit in the center console may become damaged after the driver turns off the vehicle and the main unit shuts down. Upon the next start, the damaged infotainment unit would not work. In this case, all functionalities, including the rearview camera image, would not be available. A rearview camera screen that displays no image reduces the driver’s information about what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury to people outside the vehicle. Corrective Action Replace the infotainment main unit. Precautions Upon start-up, the driver will notice that the infotainment screen in the center console is not working and not displaying an image, which should prompt the driver to pay extra attention for objects behind the vehicle when reversing. Code Visibility On November 08, 2022, the campaign code was applied to affected vehicles. Owner Notification Owner notification will take place in June 2023. Owner letter examples are included in this bulletin for your reference. Additional Information Please alert everyone in your dealership about this action, including Sales, Service, Parts and Accounting personnel. Contact Warranty if you have any questions.
