FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the retaining ring on top of the suspension strut becomes loose, the air within the pneumatic spring will be released, leading to a loss of ride comfort accompanied by a drop in ride height on the affected suspension strut. Description of the Cause : Due to a manufacturing deviation at the sub-supplier, a notch at the top part of the air suspension strut may not have been manufactured according to specification. This may cause the fitted retaining ring of the air suspension strut to become loose. This led to further analysis at the sub-supplier and revealed a manufacturing deviation. The scope of vehicles in the field was verified. December 07, 2022: The Audi Product Safety Committee decides a worldwide safety recall. Audi is not aware of any warranty claims, customer complaints or other field reports due to this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The suspension strut will be checked and, if necessary, replaced at no cost to customers. Audi will not offer a reimbursement plan under this recall. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy component has the same part number, but has been built within the required specification. In production, each part is supplied with the manufacturing data; therefore, the suspect parts could clearly be identified and it was determined that only vehicles built between August 31, 2021 and September 29, 2021 could be affected. Vehicles built after that date have been produced with parts outside the identified conspicuous batches and have received parts that are within specification. The supplier has implemented several process improvements to avoid similar issues in the future. February 2023 42M4 Page 9 of 12 Section B – Left Front Strut Inspection Remove plenum chamber cover:  Loosen the plenum chamber cover <1> from the retainers and remove from the luggage compartment seal <3>.  Remove the plenum chamber cover <1> toward the front.  Remove any remaining clips from the mounting points using the Omega Clip Tool -T40280-. Inspect circlip on left front strut:  Check distance between the ends of the circlip on left air spring strut (driver side) only.  Check if the circlip is fully seated by checking if the holes are in direct contact with the flange  If the distance is over 9mm and the circlip is fully seated: o The strut is OK. o Reinstall the plenum chamber cover in the reverse order of removal. o Proceed to Section D. 42M4 USA IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL This notice applies to your vehicle: , NHTSA: 22V927 Subject: Safety Recall 42M4 – Suspension Strut Dear Audi Owner, This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Audi has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2022 model year Audi vehicles. Our records show that you are the owner of a vehicle affected by this action. What is the issue? A retaining ring on top of the suspension strut could come loose due to a potentially insufficient notch. If the retaining ring on top of the suspension strut becomes loose, the air within the pneumatic spring will be released, leading to a loss of ride comfort accompanied by a drop in ride height on the affected suspension strut. This can affect vehicle handling capabilities, increasing the risk of a crash. What will we do? To correct this defect, your authorized Audi dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the affected suspension strut. The inspection will take about an hour to complete. If the strut requires replacement the work will take about a day. This work will be performed for you free of charge. Please keep in mind that your dealer may need additional time for the preparation of the repair, as well as to accommodate their daily workshop schedule. What should you do?
