Fuel Line May Leak Fuel

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source, increases the risk of a fire.

Summary

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2012-2014 Audi A6 and A7 vehicles. The fuel line has a compression point that can weaken, potentially resulting in a fuel leak.

Remedy

Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel line, free of charge. The recall began February 5, 2018. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-888-237-2834. Volkswagen’s number for this recall is 20AR.

Audi has notified NHTSA and Transport Canada about the upcoming safety recall described in this letter.

CODE	20AR
AFFECTED VEHICLES	Certain 2012-2014 MY Audi A6 & A7 Vehicles Check your daily campaign open inventory report or OMD for affected vehicles in your inventory.
RECALL DESCRIPTION	The fuel line was designed with a compression point to assist in installation. Due to manufacturing tolerance issues, this part of the fuel line may weaken and leak over time. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, can lead to a fire.
PRECAUTIONS	Customers are advised to contact their authorized Audi dealer without delay if they notice a fuel smell in the vehicle. If you have a customer currently experiencing this issue and the vehicle is out of warranty, please contact the Warranty Helpline for assistance.
CORRECTIVE ACTION	As with any safety/compliance recall, affected vehicles in dealer inventory are on mandatory stop-sale hold until this recall repair has been performed. Under this recall, dealers will replace the affected fuel line. Repair information will be provided to dealers when parts and repair instructions become available to support this recall.

IMPORTANT REMINDER ON VEHICLES AFFECTED BY SAFETY & COMPLIANCE RECALLS

New Vehicles in Dealer Inventory: It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle or any new or used item of motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by this notification under a sale or lease until the defect or noncompliance is remedied. By law, dealers must correct, prior to delivery for sale or lease, any vehicle that fails to comply with an applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or that contains a defect relating to motor vehicle safety.

Pre-Owned Vehicles in Dealer Inventory: Dealers should not deliver any pre-owned vehicles in their inventory which are involved in a safety or compliance recall until the defect has been remedied.
