This bulletin applies to any repair that requires replacement of the air conditioning compressor.
Technical Background
Any replacement of A/C compressors—regardless of the reason for failure—must include an ODIS GFF cooling performance test plan (Function Test Log version) of the A/C system with documentation of the recovered refrigerant volume. This GFF test plan requirement is mandatory without exception.
Service
Before replacing the A/C compressor, run the ODIS GFF test plan. The test plan is in various locations in the navigation depending on the vehicle being serviced. Since the A/C cooling performance test is a ‘function test’ it is generally found by navigating to sub-headers such as ‘functions’, ‘other functions’ or ‘general function tests’ in Heating and Air Conditioning Electronics. The following are two examples.

Service

Navigate to the Test plan tab of the diagnosis program (Figure 1). Select Body >> Heating / Air Conditioning >> 01 – On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems >> 08 – Front A/C display control head –E87- >> 08 Heating/Air Conditioning Electronics, functions >> 08-Other Functions.

Once the function test has been added to the list of “Tests in current test plan” select “Vehicle is not cooling”.

The cooling system performance test plan can then be completed following the prompts.

If the A/C performance test returns “No malfunctions”, then no repairs are needed. The system is operating properly.
If the A/C performance test returns a malfunction, perform diagnosis and repair the system as needed. If the compressor is found to be faulty according to the test plan and is replaced please:
Upload the “Long” version of the Diagnostic Log to GFF Paperless. It is not necessary to print this version.
Print out and attach the “Function Test” version of the diagnostic log to the replaced compressor for return to the WPRC (Figure 3). It is not necessary to print and attach the “Long” version of the diagnostic log.

Note:
As previously mentioned the cooling performance test plan is in various locations in the navigation depending on the vehicle and equipment level. This variation in test plan location does not in any way waive the requirement for this test plan to be run before an air conditioning compressor is replaced. If the test plan is missing or cannot be found in ODIS please file an ODIS Feedback. Consult the Technical Assistance Center (TACS) for assistance, if necessary, before replacing an air conditioning compressor without a GFF test plan supporting the replacement.

Reprogramming
Overview – Introduction
The Immobilizer is a theft-deterrent device that adds a layer of security to VWGoA vehicles that include the following brands: Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and VW. Certain repairs such as replacing emission parts cannot be performed without resetting the immobilizer code for the vehicle. This is done by a technician using the VAS for PC software to synchronize the immobilizer code embedded in the ignition key with other codes resident on parts such as the Transmission Control Module, Engine Control Module, and Instrument Cluster.
Before you can replace an emission part
Whenever you replace an emission-related control module, the immobilizer must be reset using the VAS for PC software. This can only be done if you meet the following requirements:
- You have enrolled into the program (see step 1 - Complete Pass Thru Enrollment Forms)
- You have received an email from VWGoA that contains a Security ID and Password to access the immobilizer application hosted in Germany
- You have received an email from VWGoA that contains a certificate file (e.g. IndepeDeale.30001.300999.pfx)
- You have installed the certificate onto your PC
- You have obtained a J 2534-1 Pass Thru device (see recommended J 2534-1 Pass Thru devices)
- You have performed the steps outlined in VAS for PC Setup

Pass thru devices are available for purchase from a recommended Manufacturer for registered workshops to perform Immobilizer functions. The Pass Thru devices that have been tested to work with VAS for PC follow:
