Service
If the reported oil leak appears to be from the ATF sump area proceed with diagnosis and repair as follows:
1.
Take photos of the actual condition and attach to the Repair Order.
2.
Retighten the ATF sump bolts with a torque of 5 Nm. Make sure to follow the correct tightening sequence (Figure 1).

Clean the sump and transmission thoroughly with brake clean and make sure the transmission and sump are dry before proceeding.

4.
Apply oil leak detection spray (Part # G 001 900 A1 or a locally available talcum-based oil leak detection spray equivalent) to the sealing area of the sump, ATF cooler, drain plug, and the case half seam (Figure 2).

5.
Test drive the vehicle and reassess the oil leak after the test drive.
6.
If there is no further leaking the condition is repaired. Use Claim Warranty Table 1 for this repair.

Tip: If there are drips after the test drive as shown (Figure 3) you should be able to determine if the leak is from the ATF sump gasket or if the leak is from elsewhere. Make sure to check for leaks above the sump gasket. Check the seam of the transmission case split and the weep hole of the double seal (Figure 4). Both of these leaks can be confused for an ATF sump gasket leak.

Tip: If the ATF sump gasket has been diagnosed to be leaking after all the above checks, replace the ATF sump gasket according to the Repair Manual and recheck for leaks. Use Warranty Table 2 if the ATF sump gasket is replaced. If the repair manual is followed using the special tools, the required wheel alignment should not be necessary.

Technical Assistance for repair authorization.
