February 24, 2021 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 21V111000
Engine Control Module Malfunction
An engine control module malfunction may cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V111
Manufacturer Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
Components ENGINE, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Potential Number of Units Affected 238
Summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi
) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Audi
A8 and 2020-2021 Audi
S8 vehicles. A missing sealing pin may allow moisture to enter the engine control module connector, possibly causing a control module malfunction.
Remedy
Audi will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine control module connector for a missing sealing pin, and install it, if necessary. The connector will also be inspected for corrosion, and replaced as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 12, 20121. Owners may contact Audi
customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi
’s number for this recall is 97EV.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Check if your Audi has a Recall
Issue:
Due to a deviation in the manufacturing process of the wiring harness supplier, a sealing pin may be missing in one of the engine control unit connectors. Moisture may enter the connector of the engine control module due to a missing sealing pin. This may cause malfunctions accompanied by illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and the engine may go into fail-safe mode with restricted RPM. It cannot completely be ruled out that the engine may stop while driving. If the engine stops while the vehicle is in motion especially at higher speeds, this may increase the risk of a crash.
Repair:
- REPAIR AVAILABLE – March 04, 2021 – Inspect the connector on the engine control unit to see if the sealing pin is present. If missing, the pin will be installed. The connector will also be checked for possibly existing corrosion and – if necessary – the affected connections will be replaced.See ELSA/ServiceNet for complete repair & claiming instructions
- Check daily campaign open inventory report or OMD for affected vehicles in inventory
- Repair every affected inventory vehicle before delivery to consumers.

¿Qué vamos a
hacer?

Date: March 04, 2021
Issue: Due to a deviation in the manufacturing process of the wiring harness supplier, a sealing
pin may be missing in one of the engine control unit connectors. Moisture may enter the
connector of the engine control module due to a missing sealing pin. This may cause
malfunctions accompanied by illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and
the engine may go into fail-safe mode with restricted RPM. It cannot completely be ruled
out that the engine may stop while driving. If the engine stops while the vehicle is in
motion especially at higher speeds, this may increase the risk of a crash.
Repair: REPAIR AVAILABLE – March 04, 2021 – Inspect the connector on the engine
control unit to see if the sealing pin is present. If missing, the pin will be installed.
The connector will also be checked for possibly existing corrosion and – if necessary
– the affected connections will be replaced.See ELSA/ServiceNet for complete
