SQ5 Sportback vehicle. The connections that join the metal sheets to form the tailgate may have been improperly connected.
Remedy
A dealer will replace the rear lid, free of charge. The owner notification letter is expected to be mailed September 30, 2022. Owners may contact Audi’s customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi
’s number for this recall is 55M6.

Problem Description
The connections that join the metal sheets to form the rear lid may have been improperly connected. In a crash, the rear lid lock may detach from the assembly or break. As a result, the stability of the rear lid might be influenced negatively, increasing the risk of injury.
Corrective Action
Replace the rear lid.
Code Visibility
On or about September 29, 2022, the campaign code will be applied to affected vehicles.

Repair Overview
Replace rear lid.
Chronology :
October 19, 2021: A defect on the joining tool for the tailgate of the Q5 Sportback was discovered. The defective parts of the joining tool were replaced and the monitoring values for the joining process were corrected.
October – November 25, 2021: The affected production period and the stock of affected assemblys was verified. All parts in production were blocked and reworked. The issue is reported to the Audi Product Safety Committee.
Dezember 2021 – June 2022: Tailgates from the production in Mexico were send to Ingolstadt for extensive testing. Parts that have been built according to manufacturing specification and faulty parts with the rework solution, which had to be built on purpose, were subjected to various test routines to verify the impact on stiffness and rigidity. The tailgates were dismantled and the clinch connections were cut open and analyzed to validate the impact on the connection between the two metal sheets. The scope of vehicles in the field that did not receive a rework while in production was verified.
July 27, 2022: The Audi Product Safety Committee decides a voluntary worldwide safety recall for the affected vehicles that did not receive rework while in production.
Audi is not aware of any warranty claims or customer claims due to this issue.
