FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : A connecting rod bearing with continuously rising bearing play leads to excessive engine noise. If the excessive engine noise and engine warning light is ignored and the vehicle continues to be driven, this condition may result in engine failure, potentially causing a loss of motive power while driving, and in rare cases a loss of engine oil which may pose a risk of a vehicle fire. Description of the Cause : The deviations in the connecting rod manufacturing process may have led to a contamination of the connecting rod bearing with particles that may damage the connecting rod bearing and cause excessive connecting rod bearing play. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : If this condition is present in the vehicle, the driver may notice excessive engine noise and the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) may illuminate in the instrument panel.
